We’ve Moved…

Ok, so I thought I’d give WordPress a try, but I don’t like it and am going back to Blogger.  WordPress won’t let me post video or slideshows or embed my books!  So, bye-bye WordPress.

First Time Camping

The kids were out of school because of Hurricane Ike.  The weather was actually pretty nice.  And the mosquitos hadn’t quite infested Houston yet.  SOOOO, we went camping!  It might be hard for you to believe, but the last time we went camping was when Brittney was ONE!  Therefore, this was Keldan and Becca’s first time camping.

We had a great time.  We made all the traditional camping meals: foil dinners, smores, Jiffy-popcorn, eggs & bacon and hot dogs.  We went fishing.  We went for a “hike” (more like a walk on a trail to the lake).  We slept in a tent (thanks Daidre for letting us borrow the 3-room tent).  We played games.  We saw TONS of deer, a few armadillos, and a rabbit.  It was fun and relaxing for everyone.  The kids loved it and we certainly won’t be waiting another EIGHT years before our next camping trip.

*I’m a Princess*

This past weekend I had the privilege of going to the 3rd annual Heritage Makers convention in Anaheim, CA.  I have been a Heritage Makers consultant for 2 1/2 years and it’s never been better. Heritage Makers is all about telling, sharing and preserving stories.  Our product and company has never been better.  I love the consultants I get to work with as well the clients I get to help.  Being a personal publishing consultant for Heritage Makers has been more than rewarding and I am blessed to have to work with a company that embraces technology to help others preserve their precious memories in a Storybook!

On Friday night, I was dressed in a full length gown for the Royal Ball and was presented with a plaque along with a tiarra and a boquet of roses because this year, I advanced to the rank of Director.  I sure felt like a princess!

And of course, we got to spend an evening at Disneyland too!  That was pretty fun; walking around and going on the rides with a bunch of ladies!

Check out one of my post precious books:  Thru The Years…

Our House Is Haunted!

Yesterday, we went shopping to get the kids Halloween costumes and Adam bought a strobe light.  He said he has always wanted one.  I wasn’t quite sure what he was going to do with it, but went along.

This morning, Adam and the kids spent over THREE HOURS in Brittney’s room and told me to KEEP OUT.  Finally it was time for me to go in.  Brittney, dressed as a witch, was my guide through her haunted room.  They used heavy blankets in the windows to make it completely dark, except for the strobe light.  They decorated the room with white streamers hanging from the ceiling and ceiling fan.  They found scary music online and played it through Adam’s laptop.  They dressed up the giant barbie doll.  Adam came at me with his drill.  Becca hid under a blanket on her bed and popped up with a “Boo!” on cue (almost).  Keldan popped out of Adam’s golf club hard case (like a coffin) and came after me.  They chased me with moans and roars and eventually cornered me and tickle-attacked me.

They were so excited and so proud.  I was pretty impressed with this impromptue haunted house using household stuff.  🙂

Wish ya’ll could be here to come through our Haunted House!

Hurricane Ike

Ok, so this post is a little late, but I wanted to store the news & photos here for future viewing.  🙂  Below is a series of emails sent to my family before, during and after the hurricane.  Links to pictures and videos are at the bottom.

Sent: Thursday, September 11, 2008 7:00 AM:

So, IKE decided to head directly for us.  We are preparing and will shelter in place.  The email below is advice from our Bishop.  Check out the links.  The news says that we will have 75-100 mph winds up in our area.  I’m sure we’ll be fine, but keep us in your prayers.
I’ll keep you updated via email if we have electricity.  We are supposed to stay off the phone lines during and after the storm (except to let loved ones know we are ok just once), unless it is an emergency.
Gotta go empty the backyard and get some gas & groceries.  🙂

School has been canceled and Adam’s employer is letting everyone off for tomorrow.
We are now under a hurricane warning, which means we can expect hurricane conditions within 24 hours.
They are now saying 80-110 mph winds and 6-10 inches of rain for our area.
We’ll probably have power out and trees down.  Some will have roof damage.
I still need to take down the trampoline, but the rest of the yard is bare.
We have plenty of flashlights & batteries and food & water.
My emotions are so mixed.  It’s a little exciting, but also kind of scary.

Sent from Amy’s mom to Amy’s family:
Hi,
I just talked to Amy – she is at home depot in line to buy wood to board up the house. She is getting a lot and will share any extra with neighbors. She is buying a saw, drill, and screws that you screw into the brick.
She said if the electricity goes out – they will leave after the storm – because they predict power could be out for up to 2 weeks.
This is a gigantic storm!
Love,
Mom
PS Keldan is scheduled to give a talk in Primary on Sunday – if they are there – or at a later date – his topic is “Prayer”. I hope they will feel the prayers of all the extended family – for safety and to be able to make good decisions when needed and to feel peace.

So, I’ve been up for the last 2 hours.  I got up at 2am to take a few pictures and couldn’t go back to sleep.  I lay in bed listening to the wind howl, the rain gutters shake and the walls rattle.  It has gotten progressively worse and will continue to get worse for several more hours.  Every 5-10 minutes, there will be a huge gust of wind that makes my stomach tighten and my ears perk up.  Ya, I’m not going back to sleep.
The power has flickers 2-3 times, so I figured I’d get an email out before it’s gone.  The kids are sleeping through it just fine.  Each time the power goes out, I have to go back into their rooms and turn the white noise machines back on.  Adam just woke up to the noise a few minutes ago.
So far, so good.  Just a LOT of wind and a tiny bit of rain.
Last night was beautiful.  The whole neighborhood was outside playing ball in the street.  The weather was nice.  The sky was amazing.  I’ll send pics when it’s all over.  I’ll update again later if we have still have power.

Sent from Amy’s mom to Amy’s family:
Hi ,
I just talked to Amy on her cell phone.
They lost their power about 5 AM, just an hour after she sent her email. The wind is still really strong, they expect a few more hours from now till it passes. They have 2 trees down and a big branch on another, a neighbor has a fence down, another has a tree on a fence.
If any of you remember the big willow tree across the street on the corner where the kids catch the bus – it is getting all torn apart.
They had breakfast by flashlight. They don’t know yet if they will leave – they will have to evaluate.
We are so relieved that they are all OK.
Love,
Mom

Sent from Amy’s mom to Amy’s family:
Amy had to search around to find an old phone they had that was NOT cordless – she found it and they do have phone service on their home phone.
Their plan at the moment is to stay until they hear any predictions of when power will be back on. They will try to save what they have in their fridge and freezer.
The winds are dying down just a little – but they still get huge gusts.
Love,
Mom

Hey everyone!
We got our power on about 30 minutes ago.  Yea!  So we’ll be staying here.
Thank you mom for keeping everyone updated while our power was out.
All is well and everyone is safe.  We only expect about an hour of winds & rain left here.
We’ll have to get a chain saw & get rid of several trees in the backyard.
There are roof shingles all over the lawn.  Not sure whose house it is from.
I’ll send pics soon.  I have some good ones!!
